if you have a tweezer i'd use that, however, you need to be careful with pulling ticks off, since you dont want the head to become embedded into their skin, but if you cant get it out, it will usually come out. I would really ask your vet about giving your dog anything for the first time. There is a certain age/weight for flea and tick preventatives. I don't think dawn dish soap will help with ticks. good luck.
