Hello
I think it all depends on your life style and the dog that you adopt.....not all dogs that have been abused or neglected are good with people or children for that matter. Not only it takes a while for them to adjust to normal environment and may never adjust the way you want them to. My mother had a dog although not a yorkie....it was abused and did eventually come around but still would bit everyone if he was in a bad mood for any reason. It didn't like males at all and wouldn't even get close to them, (I suspect that it was abused by one) upon my mother's passing, as much as I loved both her and her dog, I was unable to adopt it as I have a little toddler......It's sad because I could have given it a great home but I know that our son would have gotten bit all the time. Now with that said sometime you can go to animal shelters and they can tell you why the previous owner had to give it up maybe they had to move and the place didn't allow dogs. If you have the time to spend with it and don't have little children nagging it and malling it then I would give it another shot.
