I would like to say that just because you decide on a rescue does not necessarily mean they will be a lot of work. My Bogey was a rescue and fit immediately into my home. There are plenty of dogs in rescues that their former family just could not take care of any longer. With this economy people are turning dogs in all the time because they are losing their homes or are no longer able to take care of their pets. There are of course plenty of puppy mill puppies but there are also many that are owner surrenders as well. Yes, some might have issues but if you are willing to wait you will find one that will fit into your home. There are even puppies that can be found in rescues. They are not in great abundance but there are puppies out there if you look. My Doodlebug is a puppy from a mill rescue. He's a Morkie and I get compliments on his beauty all the time. You can also find quite a few that are at the below 1 yr mark as well. Personally, that is my favorite because they are at an age that is the most fun. They don't whine and cry at night, listen pretty well and a lot are already house trained too. In the rescue forum there are so many little ones that are in need of a new family and you can also check Petfinder.com for even more.
