I had VERY long hair as a child and when my mom brushed it I would cry sometimes, she pulled it! I imagine it is the same thing with the dogs. They are getting pulled by tangles, I would brush often and in only small amounts of time each so they learn it isn't a long hurting occurance. I would do it every day so the tangles don't get as bad as they would if you only brushed once a week. My rosie still gets moody when I wait a few days between brushings, she will actually go scrap with my other dog after a good brushing if I forget to brush her everyday.
