I had the same problem with dexter, but I found out it's a question of timing.
Don't try to do when your pups are playful, wait until they are calm and sleepy. It makes much easier and worked wonders for me.

You can give them a real good brush this way. My bush with a wooden handle is so chewed now, from when it was a big game. I could of saved it,if I had known earlier.
