My girl had an unbical and two ingenel hernias. Keep in touch with your vet. Our baby recoverd fully and able to play in about three weeks. But she was really fine in three days but tired easy. She also had baby teeth removed.
As far as the pain you want them to have some pain or they will tear out their stiches. Plus dogs have a high pain tolerance.
