Question first brushing....ahhh--advise needed

So we have had little Scamp almost a week now. I decided tonight to try to brush him for the first time (feeling hes well adjusted now, etc), using a small baby comb of my daughters since we havent gotten him a brush/comb yet (that was never used). He is a redleg so his hair isnt quite like all other yorkie pups but similar.

Ok my issue--he tried to eat/chew/attack the brush or fight with the brush the entire time trying to do flips to get it, etc. I kept saying no, continuing to brush very gently talking calmly telling him how handsome hed be,etc...it was a battle to say the least..it was all I could do to hold onto him!

How do I nip this in the butt so to speak. Just be consistant, reward him afterwards (or would that be showwing him its ok to attack the brush?)

Thanks!
