In my experience and from other postings on this forum - Yorkies are very good travelers! We went on a 3600 mile trip with Rowdy this summer and he did absolutely great! In my experience, you should plan ahead if you are going to stay in hotels - not all will take pets, so if we were staying in a hotel, then we made reservations in advance. You will have no problems at RV parks - you just have to keep all pets on a leash. The other thing that you have to plan for is eating since it's not a good idea to leave them in a vehicle. That means you are eating lots of picnic lunches and drive throughs. We carry and ice chest for food or when we are RVing, we eat out of our travel trailer. It is cool enough that you might be able to leave them in your car for a few minutes to run in some place, but they usually get so anxious when you leave them. I used little plastic containers with lids for food and water in the car - but Rowdy does not eat much when we are traveling - I always worry so much about his eating, but he is not using up as much energy as he is not runnign and playing - so I guess that is why. We usually end up feeding him people food some when we travel (I think he knows that and holds out for the canadian bacon on an egg mcmuffin!). Since their schedules are disrupted, and they may not eat well, you may see some loose stools, but we only had that happen once with Rowdy. My experience - and others have agreed, is that they sleep most of the time. My mom keeps her dauschaund in a crate while traveling, but we let Rowdy sleep in the seat between us. We put down a blanket and brought his favorite toys. He would play for about 5 minutes, and then pass out for the next 5 hours! If you don't know whether or not they will be car sick, it might be good to go to the vet and get something for motion sickness, just in case.
One thing to be careful of is the trash that is everywhere on the ground when you stop to let them potty. You don't have any idea of the trash on the ground till you walk a little dog who wants to sniff and/or pick up everything! Be especially careful of cigarette butts and chewing tobacco - they are very toxic.
I think they are wonderful travelers, you just have to do some preplanning to make things go like clockwork! Good luck!!!
