Exclamation Chloe found a very bad treat today!

Today, Chloe ran upstairs to me and I noticed she had something in her mouth. I pulled it out - it was a piece of gum! I know that most sugarfree gums (which is pretty much all gums) have xylitol in them. I know that it's fine for humans, but deadly to dogs.

Well it was a piece of excel gum with the hard shell around it. She didn't eat any of the gum at all, just broke the shell. Good thing I got it when I did! I called the vet right away and they said that if she didn't eat any, she would probably be fine and not to worry. Well..i am a huge worry wort so I called another 2 vets in the city and they said the same thing. She didn't eat any of the gum, she just cracked the outer shell - which is so good!

I have no idea where she got this piece from. I do have roommates, so maybe they dropped a piece, who knows! Needless to say, I will be doing some major housecleaning today and searching for other goodies that Chloe might find! haha

Has this happened to anyone else? I did a search and found a few threads on it. Also, do any of you know of any gum that does not contain xylitol.
My sister has a boston terrier and she worries about this as well. She purchased a gum called Glee, it's all natural and contains no xylitol, but she said it tastes like nothing so I guess that's out! Thanks everyone!

Make sure your babies stay away from your packs of gum! (Xylitol is also in some candies and baking - It's a sweetener)
