She probably used an ear powder. R-7 is a good one. Put a little in the ear canal, then just pull the hair with your thumb and forefinger. The hair in the canal comes out really easily.

Never use hemostats or tweezers as it can pull out hair that isn't meant to come out on the flap. It is very painful.
