It is true that not all big dogs/pitbull are bad but they are big and strong and if they decide to inflict damage, they can easily do so and the effect will be many more times than a small dog. Small dogs do get away with alot of things and that is because they are small-it isn't fair but it is a reality and nothing is ever going to make it fair. If you have a big dog, it needs to be well-trained or at least the owner is able to control the dog. Example-a small dog jumping on someone is nothing but a big dog can make a person fall hence the responsibility of owning a big dog (including training) is so much more needed and it is sad to say, not a lot of big dog owners are prepared to take on the training/challenge needed and the bigger dogs do not get away with it and end up inflicting injury to others.
Also, I think small dogs are seen as a prey to these bigger dogs. When I saw the pitbull/mastiff mix that was lost in my neighbourhood last night charging at a 3lbs Yorkie who wasn't even looking at him and wasn't even aware he was charging towards them, how do you explain that? It is the killing instinct. Good thing he didn't decide to attack the owner or the Yorkie when she lifted her Yorkie and hugged him close to her. And how did this big dog end up running around our neighbourhood? Coz the owners "thought" they could contain him in their own makeshift 3 foot temporary plastic orange fence and when he jumped out, he didn't even listen to his owners calling for him and just took off. You could tell he is not under control and is pretty wild. |
