That's actually a GOOD thing to hear! It means that the security procedures for your school are in place and they are on the ball. Good news!
I wouldn't call up there. They need the phone lines open. Just let them handle it. You'll get a call when it's over, or the news will announce that it's "all clear".
I know you're worried. Any good mom would be. Just turn on your local news and keep your phone close by.
