You mentioned you're always searching for ways to display hundreds of pictures, and I thought you might find the below Web site interesting. It's a step by step approach on how to create a 20 x 30 inch poster of about 100 of your favorite pictures, all sized 2" x 3". I've attached the one I did, but it looks like crap shrunk to YT display size. The real poster has sharp pictures that look about wallet size. I also screwed up, so all of the pictures aren't the same size.

The only downside is you need iphoto in mac for the easiest way to do it. I believe in the comments area they show you how to do it in photoshop, but my memory is that you need the full-blown photoshop, and not elements. Anyhow, it's worth checking out even if you don't do it.
