If that is the case then you shouldnt use a crate that he can walk around in. Crate training is a very good way to help with potty training but you cannot give the puppy enough room to sleep in one area and potty in another. For example if your puppy can get up and got the opposite end and potty and then got back tot he other end and sleep then the crate is too big and also a failure. A puppy will not like sleeping in its own feces nor urine therefore limit the space to only a sleeping/resting area with a toy or something comforting.
