Many thanks to you all for your comments. To put your minds at ease, I would never take Chewie to Animal Control or a shelter - I know how things are handled over there. I am going to look for a rescue group, thanks for the suggestion. John, I like to think that the black dog led this little fella to my home - but we'll never know for sure! I really think that he was trying to take care of Chewie; it was cute to see the difference in size of these two friends. I will keep you informed about what happens when I contact a rescue group. I am so thankful to have everyone's input and advice.
