I think these are my favorite responses... of course you could just smile and say "why are you asking?" That would put them on the spot, and if they were really interested you could decide to share the info or not.
oh yeah, and when I had my yorkie she WAS a rescue, ppl told me I was lucky and prolly saved thousands of dollars... then I would tell them about the vet costs for a dog with mange, tapeworms, and surgery for LP
