I started out by just answering with the truth but got too many rude responses like, "That's crazy to spend that much on a dog," "I'd never spend that much for a pet," or "I know someone who got theirs for only $___." So, now I just use what another poster said, "Not nearly as much as they are worth."
If someone seems really interested in maybe getting their own, then I wouldn't mind at all telling them how much they cost. But strangers .... I don't owe them any personal information and I would be wary about potential theft or just someone looking to make a wise remark.
My family all know how much they cost, but they are all dog lovers too and realize the purchase price is really just the beginning, and even the total of all we spend on them, spread over the life of the dog, is amazingly cheap for the loving return we get every day! |
