Hi everyone!

My yorkie, Tim, had poop matted up against his butt when I came home from work yesterday. So, I put him in the bath and worked it out, but it was obviously was hurting him. I couldn't tell if it was hurting him because of the pulling hair or if his skin was irritated, so I checked on him after he was dried off and his butt is now red and swollen. I knew that I should have trimmed the hair on his butt, but kept putting it off, now I'm worried that the how ever many hours with fecal matter on his skin could have caused an infection. It doesn't smell, it is just really red, swollen, and there is a small spot that looks like it's raw. He is favoring it, and not letting me lift his tail to look closely at it. Should I take him to the vet or is this like diaper rash that will heal? What should I look for to see if there is an infection?
