I think a point that seems to be lost here is the "breeder" didn't follow through on their contract with the buyer. Every contract I have seen for a purebred dog--regardless of breed, AKC or not--says the breeder will have first right of refusal to rehome a dog. And this breeder left the owner hanging. We don't know why the 10 month old puppy was placed with a rescue--could be he was difficult to housebreak, could be he was an only dog and was destructive or was a barker.
I feel bad for the puppy, one more transition to experience.
I don't think this turned into a debate. I think this also opened some eyes--rescues require funding, besides vet bills, food, etc. Nothing is free.
And btw, for the "someone" who thought I was tooting my own horn for following through on good ethics, and what a responsible breeder does and should do in these circumstances, I think the YT'rs here want to know that there are breeders who do the right thing by their dogs..... |
