That's a good point, the hand command for sit will actually cause many dogs to raise their nose (which pushes their butts down).

Extend the treat between your fingers, palm up, at nose level. Then curl your hand up and towards you like you are beckoning someone. Ideally, your dog naturally sits just by tracking the treat's movement. Ideally.
