We have a 15 week old female puppy and she seems to follow my husband and I around equally. If she has to choose between the two of us to play/cuddle with, she usually chooses me - so I guess in our case it isn't true...

I would go and meet all the puppies in person and more than likely one of them will stand out to you. I would go by personality more than sex.
I find this to be mostly true!
