Also.....one needs to recognize that a pup might end up in rescue with a fracture, dislocation, PDA, liver shunt, heartworms, and many other things that their owners failed to provide vet car for. Some of them are older and have adoption fees much lower than $500 but their actual vetting cost can be thousands.
So...fees are set based on age by most rescues. The fees help to recoup as I said above, but do not even come close to covering actual costs.

And, I do realize that you are not questioning the fee, but I want people to understand that the fees are not set up that way!
