I have read that when you first bring them home to keep the crate in an adults room for the first few days.Then gradually move it to the hallway for a couple of days and eventually move it to where you want it.
As for the barking and whining, try no eye contact, no talking, no touching and he/she should eventually calm down. It might take 20 minutes, but you have to be tough if you want to use the crate. They're very smart and will cry every time if you take them out when they cry. |
