IMO if he is hurting himself by being closed in a bathroom, then that needs to stop. He is telling you something. I am in the middle of training a 12 week old male. He sleeps in my bed in his kennel. When he wakes up in the middle of the night, I take him to the potty pad, and tell him to "potty". If he does not urinate, then we got back to bed and kennel. Right when he gets up in the morning, and after each nap I put him on the pads immediately and say potty again. This seems to be working for us. He is almost completely pad dependent.
I have never been a fan of putting pups in closed off areas, you cannot see if they are in trouble or not, just a thought. Hopefully you will receive some other thoughts on the problem. Best Wishes
