ok. I was JUST about to post almost the same thing. Maggie has had all the same symptoms.. the cough/gagging and she licks her face too! It's not all the time, but she has little spells. This morning it was particularly bad and I got really really nervous. Please let me know if you find anything out.. if this happens one more time I'm taking her to my vet. I might even call him today...
