Sad Wrotten tooth...teeth missing...what to do

My yorkie baby Barkley is 7 years old, going on 8 in August. Lately I've noticed when he gets excited he gets really bad breath...I never gave it a thought as to a health issue until today...It popped into my head that maybe he has bad breath due to a bad tooth issue, which he has never had before. He has normal vet visits and has never had a tooth problem, although he has had some plaque. When I looked in his mouth today I was shocked...on the left side he has a little wrotted out stubby tooth that is very loose and it looks like maybe another tooth is missing altogether...and I'm not positive but it looks like he may be missing a tooth on the right side as well. He has never behaved as if his mouth was bothering him and still eats his dry food with gusto.....I feel I have neglected my normally spoiled baby and am not sure what to do.....any advice????
