You know, I am not really sure. Marie told me, that the owners surrendered him to her, and told her that their bigger dog had stepped on him.
He went 4 weeks after the injury without seeing a Vet. In my opinion, that is inexcusable!
However, I am very confused as to why no treatment has been done, other than a cortisone shot. He was fine on the cortisone, but off of it returned to his previous state. He can not walk on smooth surfaces. He can walk on carpet, but sometimes falls over.
Now, years ago, my tiny 4# Kia jumped off a 12" mattress that was on the floor, while we were putting things together in our new home, after just installing oak flooring. I realize, she should not have been allowed to play on that mattress. And believe me, I was extremely upset with myself. My baby suffered because I allowed her to do something that turned out to be dangerous.(Both my girls had been playing on the mattress for several days, and that one day, she jumped, "wrong". She has never been allowed to jump, since then, and she seems to know she shouldn't jump.)
We noticed, very quickly, that she was walking with her back, roached, and her rump, down, and took her, immediately that day to our Vet. He gave her a cortisone shot and a round of Rimadyl and she healed very nicely.
No surgery needed. But, time is off the essence with these little ones. If we had waited a day, the outcome would have been quite different, I'm sure.
The only thing that I know that has been done is an x-ray and he does not have a fracture.
I have not heard further from Maire. I had e-mailed and called her yesterday, reached her voice-mail, and told her that if she was going to bring him out to see my Vet on Thursday, that I needed to make the appointment yesterday. So, it is now, too late to have my Vet see him.
My Vets stipulation was that they give him 1/4 of a Rimadyl twice a day for a week, and he would examine him on Thursday to assess how well, the Rimadyl helped him.
