Default Warning about flossies/bully sticks

Just want to pass on this little bit of information- - - Brady had Diarrhea this week and the vet was puzzled as to what was wrong. She sent his stool out to a lab but I haven't heard anything yet. Brady's breeder was in N.Y. the beginning of the week because she is a delegate with AKC so she didn't email me back until Thurs. By then I had taken him to the vet but could have saved $180. if I had waited to hear from her but I was concerned. After describing what the stool looked like she said she thought it was a bacteria called Spirochetes. She suggested a med. called Metronidazole and it cleared up within a day. No one is sure how it is contracted but when I told the breeder I was giving him Flossies and Bully sticks she said if they aren't sealed in plastic that this bacteria could adhere itself to mice, rats or whatever that roam in these warehouses. I found the Merrick brand at a pet store here but the Flossies weren't wrapped so they are going back to the store. It is a spirlal shapped bacteria that causes a lot of things (syphilis, Montazuma's revenge etc) but they are not related.
This bacteria causes the diarrhea and cramps and the poor baby whined and cried all night Wed even when I held him. So be careful of unwrapped goodies that they will put in their mouths.
