When training, do you prefer a playpen, exercise pen or gate? I'm having a hard time training my baby Prince. After talking to many people, I am now confused about all the different training methods. lol. He is temporarily on a feeding schedule. He gets the recommended amount of 1/2 a cup in the morning, afternoon, and at 8 P.M. just to help me monitor when he'll be eliminating. Prince has O.C.D. and I believe that this is one of the reasons why he is stressed out. I'm currently working on getting him to sleep in his crate all night so that in the morning I could immediately place him in the confined area. The crate is next to my bed but the confined area is across the room. Do I still need to put the crate in the confined area? Could someone please clarify these methods for me?
1- I understand that I could place Prince in a playpen, like the ones babies are kept in, and cover the floor with newspapers and include his crate, food, and toys. However, I need help with the procedure. How can I tell if he's progressing? Do I cover the entire floor with newspapers or give him an option? I want him to eliminate on the newspapers which I'm going to place on a tray so do I put that in the playpen too? How will he know that when he's out of the playpen that he has to go on the tray? How long do I leave him in the playpen?
2- I also understand that after I've chosen the area where I want him to eliminate, I could close off that area with an exercise pen or gate and cover the entire floor with newspapers and include his crate, food, toys, and tray where he should eliminate. Then everyday I could restrict the area little by little. How long does he have to stay there? I believe that he has to stay confined until he is trained and am afraid that he might get even more stressed out. I think that the gate confinement might work better for me because I live in a small apartment, but I just need some guidance in how to properly train him, like a step by step procedure. I feel like I'm everywhere. I can't seem to understand the methods enough to implement them. Please help, any advice would be greatly appreciated.
