Aww! OK I was having a really bad day and this made me laugh
Sammy does this too! She goes back and forth, really fast, 25 times while the poop is literally falling out of her butt! She also trudges out to her spot if it's not shoveled, but then she also jumps off the "path" she made into deeper snow!
She doesn't like the wet grass so she will go out there and do her little dance and then get too cold (because she took too long!) and she tries to come back in... so I *know* she has to go so I have to warm her up and send her back out! If she wouldn't take 5 minutes looking for a spot, she wouldn't get cold!
Loki has one spot he likes but if it's nasty out he goes as soon as 4 feet hit the grass
Actually, if the grass is wet he either puts 2 feet in the grass and leaves 2 on the sidewalk or he goes in the mulch under the awning. He's not stupid! My favorite is his 2 left feet on the sidewalk, back right foot in the grass and front right paw lifted when he pees so only 1 foot gets soggy!
