I have a suggestion outside of those 3 - how about a havanese? My MIL has one and they are a little on the bigger side (he's probably about 15-ish lbs) and is very sturdy. They don't have him long haired like you'll see on the google pictures. He kind of reminds me of a cocker spaniel. He's really, really sweet and he's a hypoallergenic breed. My BIL has dog allergies and Ace is really his dog and he's fine with it. My MIL is also allergic to cats and she's fine with him in the house too.

Doxies are cute, but personally, I'd be afraid with their backs. I know they have spine troubles sometimes. I could never have one because I would constantly be paranoid lol. Beagles are amazing dogs too, but I don't think I could deal with a lot of howling. Of the 3 you mentioned, Schnauzer has my vote!
