I've been using one that looks identical to this clipper forever since I got my cat back in 2000. Cat, dog, what's the difference. LOL. It's still sharp enough to this day. I take the tips off weekly or sometimes skip a week when I'm feeling lazy. I've also had the vet do it (daddy holding her, mommy keeping a liver treat between her fingers teasing her with it while the Dr. did the trimming real quick and only drew the slightest bit of blood off one quick so it didn't even bother her) and she used the same type of clipper! It was amazing how she turned from a wriggle worm to instantly still as a stone forgetting about her paws/arm while trying to chew off mommy's fingers.

So far I've only tried taking her to one groomer to get her nails trimmed and that didn't turn out, as a matter of fact, after that incident (2-3 nails were cut to the quick) I had to start over getting her to accept my clipping of her nails again. I just did a few toes at a time and then gradually upped the length of the torture and she seems fine with it now once mommy earned her trust back. My girl's so smart, she knows the clipper by sight! So I think it helped when she got to watch her favourite chew toy's nails being trimmed by mommy without putting up a fight.

I usually see people/groomers with that other kind where you insert the nail into that roundish hole and cut forward or what have you. My parents got that other kind years ago for our family dog and it never worked out. I also purchased the Pedi-Paws but have yet to get her used to the noise it makes. The vet tech told me with the way my girl's nails are, I'm probably better off just using a human nail filer and filing her nails rather than using a dremmel. She also said that the daily walks on concrete must be doing a really good job in keeping her nails in check and of course, to continue clipping it the way I've been doing. I mentioned to her how the groomer said to me that the nails are too long when you hear them hitting the hard surfaces, but she said it's fine and there's no way to get it that short now.
