I believe in the "pack leader" theory. Its not an abusive or aggressive role - but rather a firm and confident role. Being the pack leader is about teaching the rules and being consistent about enforcing them. Inconsistency leads to confusion. Once the dog understands the rules and obeys the rules, everyone lives in harmony.

Not sure your thread is about rules of the home - but rather you want to show your affection and your baby isn't having it?? In that case, reward for good behavior.

For instance, I didn't want Bailey to run away from me when I wanted to pick her up. So, I gave her a treat when I picked her up. After the training phase, I gradually weaned her off the treats.
