I know crows will chase away squirrels that are after their food supply, but the average squirrel is much smaller than a Yorkie. We have a group of big black type of birds that live in a large tree by our house, and they won't come into the yard when Joey out there. At 5 ½ pounds, he scares them. He even scares a much larger Heron. I won't allow him outside alone, because I'm afraid of Hawks, they are definitely birds of prey. Birds will attack in number if one of their young has fallen on the ground, so it's not so much that they want to eat the dog, but are protecting their young.
