Well, you said it, you started it. It is really hard to hear them but you've got to be strong. Not sure if I am understanding, are you awake and in the same room with him while he is in his crate? If that's the case, than I could understand the whining. If you are off to bed, maybe try to either leave a radio on or a clock with the ticking noise near his crate. I would also suggest a cover for his crate.

I used to have a baby monitor so I could determine if the the whining was just that or something more. There was one night he was crying very loudly and I caved...he had to potty.

Is putting his crate next to your bed an option? Ours are in their expen downstairs at night.
