I would always get someting like this checked out with the vet first. When I had my two yorkies ( recently passed), One was a great eater, the other always quirky. The quirky one developed a phobia with his dish--became afraid of it. We changed the dish. We changed the location of the dish when later in life he became more needy and wanted to be near us when he ate. I would be cautious about adding things to his food to encourage eating. That can develop an even pickier eater.

The sudden messing and wetting sounds like a health issue--definitely have it checked out thouroughly.
