I use a Whal Peanut....shave the ears down to the ear leathers on both sides. I do this not only to assist the ears in standing but, to get them use to the vibration of the clipper and the feel of it on their foot peds. Their toe nails I begin to trim for mother's sake....those little things are like needles. and keeping their butts trimmed is also for mother's sake. I do this weekly, so they get use to being touched as well as getting use to different situations. As a exhibitor/breeder I do this as much for me. I want that new puppy that I'm going to take into the ring familiar with every aspect of the grooming table. And those puppies I place in pet homes, I want the new family's experience to be a positive one. Grooming is an important part of getting it socialized.

As a groomer I've had people bring me puppies that are 8 months of age and never been to a groomer.....I have to start from step one......it's a slow process and the puppy is just so panicked. It takes me about three sessions to make that puppy realize that the grooming process is the time is fun for both of us.
