I have always been one of those people to a certain extent. I have always referred to my dogs as my babies. I have always allowed them to get on the furniture and sleep in my bed and miss them like crazy if I am away from them for a day. But I def. think there has to be a balance. Like others have said, I think spoiling them is okay as long as you teach them obedience as well.
When I moved out and got married I took the family dogs with me and my parents got a long-haired chihuahua they named Sadie. Now, my dad has always loved dogs too but he treats Sadie better than he has ever treated any other dog. I never thought I'd live to see him let a dog sleep in his bed. He spoils her rotten and she rarely gets disciplined and she is a HUGE brat! She barks at my poor brother the whole time he is in the house and does the same thing with other company. She is bites if anyone comes near my dad while he is holding her. She is a holy terror! People never say anything to my dad but they leave absolutely hating her.
I swore before I got Tobie that I would not let him be like her. I want people to leave my house saying, "What a sweet dog!". That's why I started obedience training ASAP! Him being like Sadie scares me to death!
