My cousin has an 11 year old miniature poodle who was neutered 7-8 years ago, and never bred before that either (she had him since he was a pup, and she only had 2 male dogs ever), and he tied with her 8 month old shih tzu that was in heat. She called me freaking out! She said they were both completely terrified because they were stuck together. She took her in the following month to get spayed, but she never thought that it could happen. I have heard of it on more than one occasion. I don't think it's as uncommon as some might think!
