with or without Pancreatititis...she's better Back last summer, I came here hoping for help with my sick Yorkie (she's actually a Morkie but, as you can see from her picture, she looks all Yorkie). As a first timer with an itsy bitsy, I was nearly out of my mind trying to keep her alive. There was a question of Pancreatitis as, at one point, her enzymes were through the roof. She was having attacks of vomiting and diarrhea, approx. every 2-3 weeks, that were so bad, she would end up vomiting and pooping POOLS of blood. There were many nights that I worried she would not make it to morning. The extremes I went to well, I'm guessing some people would think me crazy.
After countless vets and tests, I finally happened upon a wise, older vet who took a somewhat passive approach. He decided: "let's just say she has a delicate digestive system" and put her on an RX diet of very high fiber dry food with a daily dose of pepcid. OMG, I can not tell you how welcome the transformation has been.
Because her little mouth and teeth can't consume enough hard, dry food to keep her weight up, I grind it up and mix it with warm water, like a gruel. After she was stable and to entice her to eat, I add very lean bits of meat on top. It works and, at the time, we have not had an "attack" since November. It's like a miracle.
There are several folks here that gave me some very good advise and some very welcome and much needed support. For the first time, I felt I was not alone and there were people who understood just how horrible it is to have a sick baby.
Thank you so very much,
