I think you need to stop that behavior asap. Let her know who is boss. She is NOT in charge. If you laugh it off and let it continue, I promise you it will get worse and she will start growling and nipping at anyone who crosses her path, including kids, etc. I also see it as she thinks she owns you and is protecting you. That's not a good thing, even if you think it's cute now, it won't be cute when nobody can pet her, ya know.

I would see if your parents can walk by and when she starts the growling/nipping thing, to quickly say "No!" and maybe pick her up or shake pennies in a can or something to startle her. Then she will associate the growling/nipping with something BAD.
