Hey I got your post. We just got Buddy done Neutured on Friday and the vet said it would take 3 weeks before you would even see a change in him. But I do highly recommend the puppy training class. I was really encouraged today when I went for a makeup training class that we had missed and so I got a one on one with the trainer which was great.
I could talk to her more about the biting with Buddy. I asked her if she thought he would ever stop this she said yes but we have to be consistent on what we do and that he seems to be a strong willed puppy so it may take some time but be consistent.......
So I am going to rethink it all over again and start from scratch. She seems to think that somewhere along the line we have rewarded him for his biting like if you yell or whatever at him this is kinda a reward to him. I never thought of it that way but I guess she is right. But we don't yell. I admit though I have done it once or twice when he just kept biting me and wouldn't let go. It hurt me so bad that it was just a yell off guard.
So this is what I am going to try and really stay at it. Which believe me we have been consistent on everything we tried but I am gone to go another approach here......
We have a pet pen in the living room that he stays in while we are gone or if we need to leave the room for anything we put him in there until we get back. What I have told everyone in the family that we are all to do this not just me.....that when he bites and will not let go like he always does I am going to say no bite and then when I can get a hold of him I am putting him directly in the pen and leave him for a little bit and walk out of the room where he doesn't see me. Because they say he doesn't like to be ignored so we will see.
The trainer last week said try using a spray bottle with water around the mouth not in the eyes or in the mouth when he bites but that hasn't worked really well. He runs and you can't catch him but he does move away but then comes back even after spraying him.
She also told me today that since the water doesn't work all that well to get a air can like thing you use to clean the computer with. So I might have to try that if this doesn't work again.....
My Buddy had to wear the lampshade when he got neutured because he went crazy and wanted to lick plus it was acting crazy he just couldn't figure it all out. It was so pitful seeing him but he laid around in our laps for a couple of days. He was able to sleep in his crate alright with the lampshade too. I was totally amazed that he did.
Let me know how you make out.....
