FWIW: My other pet passion is koi. I have several ponds, and keeping the predators away from my fish is a high priority. We can net the ponds, but that isn't very attractive. We can build gazebos around them, but that may not be practical. But, with a little thought into how to do it, most people CAN string monfilament fishing line across their yards. You need a few posts, but string the heavy line back and forth. It only needs to be about every 6-7 feet or so, zig-zagged.

It doesn't interfere with visual openess for us humans, but the birds can see it. They can't get a clear entry and exit, and they'll leave you alone.
