First off I absolutely love hearing a man say/admit they are dog lovers..as for dogs.. they gravitate to the one that loves dogs the most..they just know... and as far as your age goes that is pretty insulting to be told at 61 your over the hill....
I cannot believe that rescue's feel this way.. I would think that finding the right parent would be first and foremost on their mind.. not the age of a person...
For non of us know how long we will live on this earth.. so dogs can lose a young parent also...
There are babies to be bought from breeders and some depending on where a person lives sell yorkies very reasonable...good luck
