WELCOME TO YT!!! WOW....5 puppies!!!! That is a LOT!!!! You need to know that they do not produce their own body heat for the first 3 days. So make sure they don't stray to far from Mom. Also make sure they don't get stuck under Mom, behind Mom, or tangled in her hair. A mother will take care of them but will not remove them from a potential life threatening situation. The Mom will need to pee frequently and will want RIGHT back in with the pups. Don't let it hurt your feelings, but she won't want much to do with you for the first 3 days. Hopefully you put her on puppy food during her pregnancy. She will need to eat puppy food for as long as she is nursing. Other than you making sure everyone is ok (which is quite often), she will take full care for the first two weeks. Feeding, stimulating to go to the bathroom, and cleaning up the area. Help her with cleaning when you see the opportunity. The pups will not go to the bathroom on their own at first. They can not see or hear. Mom may get pretty messy from delivery, but wait to bath her until tomorrow. Just wipe her off for now....you don't want her to be wet. Her belly will get sticky from the milk....wipe that off when you see it is necessary. Hopefully you trimmed the hair from her teets beforehand....if a hair gets swallowed by a pup it will scream in pain. Hope this helps, I could run on and on. Good luck and keep us posted.....no such thing as a stupid question either, just ask....someone will help you. This site is priceless!
