By testing, we don't mean getting vaccinations, etc. We mean testing the parents before breeding for liver shunts, luxating patellas, thyroid disease, heart and eye conditions that can be passed onto puppies, etc. This type of testing is expensive so puppy mills and backyard breeders don't do it.
Since Yorkies are 36 times more likely to have a liver shunt
than all other breeds combined, buying a puppy whose parents have not had bile acids tests to make sure they will not produce liver shunt puppies is taking a huge risk.
