We kept Maybellines black puppy hair until about 9 or 10 months. Her black puppy hair was so coarse that we finally had it cut down to where you could see the silver growing in and it helped tremendously. Her silver hair is just like silk and you can brush it without her fussing. Since cutting it down to the silver we have started to let it grown out. We also keep the top knot.
