I don't mean to be rude, but I have taken care of a litter of puppies that had to be weaned early (at 4 weeks), and that's exactly what I did and they were plump and healthy and never had a single problem.
Thanks for all of the information. We figured out alot on our own as well. couple more questions:

Do we still need to stimulate defication and urination, if so any pointers on the defication stimulation?
