Dogs will eat when they get hungry. I never give table food, nor would I. Dogs can get pancreatitis. My friends 6 year old yorkie just had this about 2 mos. ago, and they almost lost her. She said NEVER again will she feed table food. The problem is that once you start giving them people food, they will NOT want their own food, and you're right, your dog probably isn't getting the nutrients he needs.
Look at the ingredients on your dogs food. You want to stay away from corn, soybean, byproducts. Your first few ingredients should be meat. Pedigree isn't one of the better foods out there, it's like on the bottom of the totem pole. I'm not going to lecture you on the dog food, as I grew up in the 50's and had dogs live many years on pedigree and purina foods. I am giving mine Taste of the Wild now, you may want to check out the ingredients in that or some of the better foods. But, my advise to you would be to keep the "junk food" away from your dog. You've been lucky so far, that luck may run out
