I'm reading here that yorkies are known to be very difficult to train, in this area. I guess I'm asking, if anyone out there has adopted an older yorkie and was successful in house-training them? I'm looking forward to having her here with me and my babies (feather and fur) but I need to know, if I have a quicksand of a chance on making a lady out of her (modestly speaking). All suggestions will be gratefully accepted.
I would say yes there is. I would suggest that you keep her pinned off in an area with pee pads to start. (Anytime that you are not holding and loving on her) Cover the entire area, and as she gets better at it start removing them one by one. If you want to train her to go outside to potty, take her out after every feeding(or when she eats if you free feed) and when she wakes up from naps etc. Every time that she use the pee pad or outside make sure to give her a treat and talk it up with praise and lovin's. They respond very well to positive attention. If she has an accident a strong "NO" will do the trick and then place her on the pee pad or outside. This is how we train our babies, our adults go outside, but have pee pads down for the middle of the night urges, or when we are not home.
